Air pollution inside buildings is mainly caused by micro-organisms proliferating when the humidity level is high. What are the risks and diseases associated with presence of mould on walls?

-allergies and asthma
-immune system disorders

Biological pollutants in indoor spaces like inadequate humidity and ventilation. High humidity of the air promotes proliferation of mites and fungi, increasing the number of allergens, toxins and other irritants released into the environment.

When mould is present on the walls, only ventilation reduces concentration of humid air inside the buildings. However, ventilation systems and air conditioning can also be harmful if not properly maintained. What are the remedies for preventing or removing mould from walls?

As it was mentioned, proper ventilation allows changing air cycle through the apartment, eliminating the microorganisms present in the air.

However, one must take care in some machines, such as air conditioners, the same micro-organisms and mites (that flutter due to mould on your walls in the air) settle on the fan blades. What happens when we turn on the air conditioners? Mites and filamentous microorganisms, i.e. moulds, are largely released into the air, and eventually are breathed in by our lungs.

The “PRANA” D-MVHR (decentralised mechanical ventilation with heat recovery) is able to reclaim the environment by using multiple sensors such as humidity sensors, atmospheric sensors, CO2 sensors and temperature sensors to assist in monitoring the air and then introducing clean and ionized oxygen, at the amount required, thanks to the copper heat exchanger which is an efficient conductor with natural antiseptic properties. This, in short, combats the forming, proliferation and spread of moulds and fungus and dries dampness in the air. This system would not have the problem of mites accumulating inside the filters, as they are not standard, although, filters are available in this device if required.

“PRANA” recuperator/ ventilation system utilises an innovative system of sensors to monitor, correct and control the airflow in any indoor environment. The sensors are capable of detecting changes to atmospheric pressure, temperatures, air quality, CO2 build up and humidity. This allows Prana to be far more effective than any other competing device on the market.

Mould that forms on the walls can be of various types. These types include:
Condensation mould.
Infiltration mould from roofs or terraces.
Rising mould.
It is important to find out the cause and take immediate action.

The simplest cases are those of Condensation or Infiltration from the roofs. To this end, in the simplest cases it will be enough to eliminate the source in order to solve the condensation problem. Ceiling leaks can originate from the leaks in the apartments upstairs or roofs. This happens often and therefore the first thing to check is whether the neighbour upstairs has any water losses in the bathroom or kitchen. Nowadays, renovation of a bathroom or a kitchen is a rather simple operation that allows you to eliminate a whole series of things that could lead to losses and damage caused to the neighbour’s properties.
